The night dive at Hikkaduwa offers a magical experience where the reef takes on a whole new persona in the dark. The water is calm, and visibility is still clear, with up to 10-15 meters. The bioluminescence is a highlight, as plankton and some marine animals light up the water with a soft glow. This is a unique opportunity to witness the secret world of aquatic life after dark.
Guided by our experienced instructors, you'll get a firsthand look at the behavior of nocturnal marine creatures. The dive will be conducted at a slow, controlled pace, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
Arrive at our dive center for a quick introduction and equipment fitting. You’ll meet your dive instructors and get ready for your night dive experience.
Our instructors will provide a detailed briefing on the night dive, including safety measures, dive procedures, and what to expect. You’ll learn about the local marine life you might encounter and the best practices for diving at night.
After the briefing, we’ll board the boat and head towards the dive site in Hiriketiya Bay. The boat ride is a short, scenic journey, and you’ll have a chance to enjoy the evening views of the coastline.
Arrive at the dive site, where you’ll descend into the calm, clear waters of Hiriketiya Bay. The underwater world looks completely different at night, as many species of marine life become more active in the dark. You may encounter glowing bioluminescent plankton and curious night creatures.
After about an hour of diving, we’ll make our way back to the shore. On the boat ride back, you can share your experiences with the other divers.
No, beginners can participate in our Discover Scuba Dive session with an instructor.
